Express Video Supply and Videotape Products, Inc. recently hosted an event to introduce JVC’s new GY-HM650 professional video camera to the Hollywood, Calif. market. Held at the Containment Field Studio in North Hollywood, the event gave camera operators and industry professionals with a specific interest in mobile newsgathering an up-close look.
After an introduction by JVC Professional’s Alicia Reed and Doug Mullin showcasing the camera’s Wi-Fi and remote capabilities, attendees had some hands-on time with the camera. The GY-HM650 video camera can send footage via Wi-Fi or 4G to an office or editing suite via its built-in FTP and Wi-Fi connectivity. Small, light and advanced, the camera surpasses the performance of many traditional ENG-style units and offers various capabilities. Dual codecs make it possible to record two screens simultaneously: full HD on one memory card and a smaller web-friendly file on another card. The camera also allows interface with apps for iOS/Android for remote control, remote viewing and metadata upload. Available for $5,995 MSRP, the GY-HM650 comes with a built-in 23x Fujinon autofocus zoom lens and offers low-light F11 sensitivity at 2000 lux.
