Marketing Films with Movie Trailers

Any filmmaker will tell you that marketing a film takes hard work, a great design team and one heck of movie trailer. And one of the most enjoyable aspects of watching a film in theaters is the opportunity to see new trailers on the big screen. Getting that first look at a highly anticipated upcoming film can be a real thrill, but there’s more that goes into creating a great trailer than meets the eye. Trailer Editor Chris St. Pierre has ample experience in this arena, having edited trailers for Dark Shadows, the Harry Potter franchise, Troube with the Curve and many more films — and he knows all too well the effort that goes into creating an electrifying trailer experience.

Zielinski Reflects on the U.K. Filming of Private Peaceful

The story behind the collaboration of Cinematographer Jerzy Zielinski, ASC and Director Pat O’Connor on their film Private Peaceful reads like a script for a feel-good Hollywood movie where the good guys win in the end. Born and raised in Poland, when the nation was behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War, Zielinski was an avid still photographer and movie fan during his youth. He studied cinematography at the state film school in Lodz and earned his first feature-film cinematography credit for Aria for an Athlete in 1979. After the film was screened at a festival, a British embassy diplomat made arrangements for Zielinski to visit film studios in England. It was there that he met O’Connor and Producer David Putnam.

Special Profile on the U.S. Virgin Islands

usvi2158_2

The beauty shots you expect with the diversity of  locations you don’t.

The U.S. Virgin Islands offer more than a picturesque paradise for production. Of course, the USVI has beautiful beaches to rival any in the world. But diverse locations, such as rural farmland, lush forests, sprawling Southern estates, quaint European towns, military barracks and more allow producers to envision that the perfect shot/scene/film might just be in their Caribbean backyard.

Just as fascinating as the range of locations is an infrastructure that makes it easy for crews to work. Experienced and professional crews live and work in the USVI, as well as companies equipped to provide everything from lighting and electrical services to stylists and set designers. The Film Office can provide an updated roster of these companies, as well as direction on scheduling shipments, permitting, customs and travel documents.

Hollywood Hit Man Jerry Bruckheimer

Prolific Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is proud that he makes “popcorn movies,” the kind that fill theaters with appreciative audiences looking for cool entertainment on a hot summer night. “I see myself as a person who creates entertainment,” Bruckheimer tells P3 Update. “And I try to entertain as many people as is possible. If they can sit back and enjoy their popcorn and get lost in one of our films, and forget about what’s going on in their lives, then I’ve done my job. If that’s the label critics want to put on my entertainment, I’ll take it. Really, it’s a great badge to wear. The more we can entertain people, the better we make our lives.”
