Thales Angénieux lenses have become a supporting foundation for international filmmakers. Now Angénieux has become an official partner of the Cannes Film Festival and this year presented the “Pierre Angénieux Excellens in Cinematography” honor to cinematographer Peter Suschitzky, ASC (The Empire Strikes Back, Eastern Promises).

Each year, Angénieux makes a tribute to a prominent international director of photography that has used and help secured the success of Angénieux zoom lenses. In honor, Angénieux turns the spotlight to these motion picture capturing professionals.

This tribute ceremony bought together prestigious artists involved in Suschitzky’s work and allowed them to express their deep admiration for this successful cinematographer. Among those in attendance include: Matteo Garone (Director, Tale of Tales), Alba Rohrwacher (Actrice,Tale of Tales), Juliette Binoche (Actress, Cosmopolis), Valeria Golino (Actress – Ludwig Van B. and Member of Feature Film Jury at Cannes Film Festival 2016) and Viggo Mortensen (Actor–Eastern Promises, A History of Violence, A Dangerous Method).

Director John Boorman (who was not in Cannes this year) also paid tribute to Suschitzky through a video that was screened in Bunuel theater. Actor Viggo Mortensen read a letter from director David Cronenberg with whom Suschitzky worked on eleven movies together.
Suschitzky was presented with an Optimo 28-76 by Pierre Andurand which was specially engraved with the cinematographer’s name.
