The English language film is inspired by the true story of an international group of POWs in a German concentration camp who organize their own Olympic Games as a cover for a daring escape.
The film is a co-producton of Casanova Multimedia (Italy) and Milk and Honey Pictures (Czech Republic), and is directed by Alfredo Peyretti. The international cast features Scotish actor Gary Lewis, known for his roles in Gangs of New York, Billy Elliot, Eragon, My Name is Joe, and others. Over 70 Czech film professionals and over a dozen local service companies supplemented an Italian crew of 15.
"The opportunity to shoot with many hundreds of extras in authentic locations was a key reason the director and our partners wanted to shoot in the Czech Republic," said Tomas Krejci, the film's co-producer, and a partner in Milk and Honey Pictures. "Since our sets were historically accurate, part of our agreement with the local municipality was to leave the buildings intact after filming."
"Generous Czech tax incentives - 20% of the money spent in Czech republic - were important to the Italian production team, who were returning to the Czech Republic after their excellent experience shooting "Zodiaco 2" last year," added Radomir Docekal, also of Milk and Honey and a co-producer on the project.
