“We want to bring people in here and introduce them to Utah,” says Director Marshall Moore. “Our film incentives, the crews, the products, and more. The Hub is all things Utah and drives the main purpose of bringing business back to Utah all year round and not just during Sundance and Slamdance.”
The film commission is all about education as well. They held panels all week long, including “Navigating the Independent Film World” with guests Robert Jayne, Brad Johnson and John Murphy, a panel on the Motion Picture Incentive Program (MPIP) and another with esteemed Utah film critics.
“We’ve had panels going on all week in partnership with Cast & Crew Entertainment Services,” says Moore, “and we had about 300 people at our filmmakers brunch during the week. The object is to talk to those filmmakers and let them know that just because they didn’t film their last film in Utah, they still could film their next one here.”
Over the eight days of having The Hub open, Moore has met influential people that could possibly bring film business back to the state. He got to speak with William H. Macy who’s now writing and directing, and other big producers that have films in the festival.
“All those little meet-and-greets help you build relationships and we’re all about building those to lead to future business, ” says Moore.
