The Dubai Film and TV Commission’s website has added an online location permitting system, where producers can submit and pay for permits as well as submit their scripts for approval.
“The automated portal is key to improving our efficiency and streamlining the processes that facilitate Dubai’s growth as a regional and international media production hub,” said Chairman of the Dubai Film and TV Commission, Jamal Al Sharif. “With many popular shoots having recently been filmed here such as the infamous Masterchef Arabia, The Bold and the Beautiful and Welcome Back – the sequel to Bollywood blockbuster Welcome – Dubai’s film and TV industry is going from strength to strength.”
The Dubai Film and TV Commission recently rolled out a full production guide at Cannes, and now with their online permit applications, they are hoping to see a rise in filmmakers by putting the city at the fingertips of those who have not yet visited. The information in the production guide as well as the ease of the application helps filmmakers to prep for Dubai shoots right from the comfort of wherever home is while leaving them with a good overview of the city.
Although Dubai does not currently have their filming incentives laid in stone, they work from project to project to determine what is fair. Such negotiation recently bought in Tom Cruise blockbuster Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
“We currently process over a thousand permit applications per year, and expect that number to rise with our concerted efforts to promote Dubai as a production destination,” Al Sharif stated.
