If you’re brave enough to try base jumping and hoping to capture the golden moment with GoPro footage, you might also want some stills so that you can prove your daring feat was real and impress your friends with a Facebook album.

For thrill seekers and professional and amateur filmmakers alike, big news and opportunities come with the announcement of GoPro’s Dual HERO system, which allows the user to capture full-resolution video and photographs at the same time by holding two HERO3+ Black cameras. The Dual HERO system also offers free GoPro Studio editing software that can create 3D content with the captured synchronized footage, making it tremendously simple to convert from 2D to 3D.

The Dual HERO offers lots of handy built in features, such as an integrated Mini USB port for offload, battery charging, and live-feed to a monitor (though for the live feed, GoPro Composite or Combo Cables are required). The Dual HERO system is also waterproof to 60m and is built to handle almost any type of environment and shooting conditions. It even comes with retro-looking 3D glasses for watching back footage on a compatible 3D television or computer.

At a price point of $199, the Dual HERO system seems like a handy tool to have on a set, especially for those that already own the two required GoPro Hero 3+ Black editions.

For a test run of how the Dual HERO works in action, check out the video below of an actual base jump using the system.
