Avid also makes it easier for facilities that handle a variety of input formats and delivery of multiple output formats. Editors can now master and archive projects more efficiently with Avid Media Authoring, a new component of Avid Media Access (AMA). It offers support for AS-02, a standard developed by the Advanced Media Workflow Association that helps post facilities simplify efficient media management for the versioning of programs and streamline delivery to a variety of platforms and devices.
Russo also demonstrated greater flexibility with third-party hardware. Through Avid Open I/O, editors can now activate and deactivate hardware to pass control back and forth between Media Composer and third-party applications, like Adobe After Effects or Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve. “We are delighted to see such a great response and interest from the editing community to see what’s new with the Avid Media Composer family of products,” said Russo. “The Editors’ Lounge provides a unique opportunity to network with scores of professional editors, learn more about how they use Avid solutions as well as gain added insight into what they’d like to see in the future, which ultimately helps us develop the best products for our customers.”
Tiffen, a leader in the photographic manufacturing industry, and its Dfx development partner Digital Film Tools demonstrated a tremendously useful new tool for film and TV editors. Tiffen Product Manager Jena Rappolt-Noyes discussed the popular optical equivalent filters found in the Tiffen Dfx software as well as demonstrated the filter suite’s myriad of color and image correction tools, light modifiers, color gel libraries and other features. Dfx offers extreme versatility and plugs into most popular editing, compositing and photo hosts. Tiffen Dfx also has multi-host licenses to help postproduction editors choose the best editing software with the most efficient workflow for specific projects. On the same machine, the Dfx photo video plug-in can be installed in Lightroom, Photoshop, Aperture, Avid, After Effects, FCP 6, 7 and X, Motion and Premiere Pro. “There is so much jam-packed into Dfx V3 software, [and] our clients have been extremely happy at how much their workflow has improved,” Rappolt-Noyes reported.
The eventful evening concluded with lucky raffle winners receiving copies of Avid 6.5 and Tiffen Dfx software. “I really enjoyed the event and camaraderie,” said Rappolt-Noyes. “It was really cool to see the positive reaction to Dfx, especially when one raffle winner wanted to swap his prize for a Dfx software plug-in!” The next Editors’ Lounge is set for October 25.
