"Game of Thrones" has help make great strides for Northern Ireland’s involvement in the film business.

Titanic Studios in Belfast, where the show is housed, is set to expand with two new stages at a cost of GBP 14 Million. An article in The Location Guide covered the expansion and plans for the studio space.

The new space at Titanic Studios, which was approved in January, will turn it into one of the most enormous hubs in Europe. It will feature innovative installations like a roof mounted solar panel, as well as production workshops and expanded parking.

Northern Ireland’s Environment Minister Mark H Durkan believes that the solar panels will cut costs and create a greener studio space. “The use of sustainable technology with the roof mounted solar panel system is also to be welcomed,” he said. “These photovoltaic roof-mounted panels convert solar radiation into electricity which reduces costs – a win-win for business and the environment. Developments like this are leading the way in helping Northern Ireland move towards a low carbon economy. It is my aim to ensure planning creates a better environment and a stronger economy. This development helps to do this.”

The fifth season of "Game of Thrones" has chosen to stay in Northern Ireland, and since its start shooting there has resulted in a huge boom in business and tourism.  “Securing the fifth series of "Game of Thrones," HBO’s largest drama production in Europe, will generate in excess of GBP 20 million annually to the Northern Ireland economy,” said the First Minister of Northern Ireland Peter D Robinson MLA when the new season of "Game of Thrones" was confirmed.
