COLAs Honor California’s Location Professionals

img_3644On October 28, the 18th Annual California on Location Awards (COLA) recognized talented film and television location professionals at the historic Huntington-Langham hotel in Pasadena. The COLAs are an annual flagship event created by the Film Liaisons In California Statewide (FLICS), a nonprofit organization of regional film commissions that promote and support California’s film and television production industry. The celebration highlighted the best of the best when it comes to scouting and managing the California locations that are ultimately seen on television and the big screen. In addition, various governmental sectors of federal, state and local public employees were recognized for their valuable services while facilitating California location filming in their jurisdictions.

IBC 2012 Revisited

The city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands was once again an ideal setting for IBC2012. Broadcasters and filmmakers from around the world gathered to discuss technology and trends that will ultimately transcend how consumers will be entertained. The location was beautiful and the weather perfect, and everything from the traffic to each IBC event flowed seamlessly.

The attendance figures for this year’s event at the RAI Exhibition and Congress Centre were reported to be an impressive 50,937.

Utah 2012

The Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development, the Utah Film Commission, the Utah Office of Tourism and Delta Air Lines came together to welcome the Hollywood community to film in the state of Utah at the annual "UTAH IN HOLLYWOOD" event. The September evening event held at the Luxe Hotel on Sunset Boulevard in West Los Angeles was attended by producers, actors, location managers and other entertainment industry professionals as they looked to gain information about lensing in the state.

In September 2012, The Pasadena Convention center played host to Digital Video Expo where industry pros gathered for training, networking, and to preview the latest products that shape the way filmmakers create, store and distribute video content. Sponsored by NewBay Media, the  16th annual Digital Video Expo had plenty to offer attendees with panel discussions, conferences and industry sessions including a featured conversation with Academy Award-Winning editor Paul Hirsch, A.C.E., and master classes with documentary filmmaker David Vassar and cinematographer Gale Tattersall.

AFCI's Locations Show 2012

The Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) recently held their annual Locations Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center on June 15-16, 2012. Film commissioners from across the globe were in attendance to give exhibitors access to information regarding funds, financial incentives and services essential to aid film and television production. The show held conference sessions, panel discussions, mentoring roundtables, social events and workshops intended for industry professionals to gain essential insight in staying updated on today’s competitive market.
