The L.A. Film Festival

Now in its 16th year, the 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival (LAFF) took place this past June in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Presented by the Los Angeles Times, the Festival showcased the best in new American and international cinema and brought public access to critically acclaimed filmmakers and emerging talent in the backyard of the world’s movie-making capital. LAFF is produced by Film Independent, a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to promoting and supporting independent films and filmmakers.


L.A. Shorts Fest

The 14th annual L.A. Shorts Film Festival recently honored filmmakers who have demonstrated a high standard in the creation and development of the short film. Held on July 22–30, 2010 at Laemmle’s Sunset 5 Theatres in Hollywood, Calif., L.A. Shorts is officially recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In recent years, 33 of the Festival’s films have received Academy Award nominations and 11 have won the Oscar.


IBC 2010 Preview

Although largely a European event, due to its location at the RAI Centre in Amsterdam, IBC attracts exhibitors and content professionals from all over the globe. Last year’s event attracted over 45,000 attendees representing more than 140 countries worldwide.

High-end digital content just took a major leap: Cinematographer Shane Hurlbut, ASC is pushing the envelope of capturing HDSLR images with an intense two-day “Boot Camp” to inspire filmmakers wanting to perfect their craft while respecting ecological footprints.
