That's a Wrap for Sundance 2014

This year was Sundance’s 30th anniversary, and Festival Executive Director Keri Putnam made sure we all knew that “the mission hasn’t changed” even though we’ve seen significant transformations and a remarkable evolution over the years. Sundance Institute now boasts 18 labs throughout the year and includes documentary, music, theater and new media arts throughout the more traditional narrative aspects of the 10 days in Park City, Utah.

Sundance Institute this evening announced the Jury, Audience and other special awards of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival at the feature film Awards Ceremony, hosted by Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally, in Park City, Utah. Video of the ceremony in its entirety is available at www.sundance.org/live.

Revolution Cinema Rentals: For Trailblazing Shooters

The camera/gear rental house Revolution Cinema Rentals (formerly Hurlbut Visuals DSLR Cinema Rentals) recently held its Holiday Educational & Demonstration Festival at the company’s facility in San Fernando, Calif. The event featured two keynote speakers: Cinematographers Shane Hurlbut, ASC, who discussed methodology and his latest film Need for Speed (starring Aaron Paul), and Timothy Kang, who led the session “Digital Imaging Fundamentals: How to Shoot Digital like Film, and Practical Solutions for Set and Post.”

Band Pro One World Open House

Band Pro recently held their open house at their facility in Burbank, Calif. Each year they convert tent space into a dynamic, interactive camera, recording, and workflow environment where products will be displayed as they are actually used on set. They feature the industry’s best new technology and give the chance for industry members to walk the floor and get educated on the latest and greatest in new innovations.

A Look Back at AFM 2013

This year’s American Film Market (AFM) was another success, featuring over 400 films from 33 countries for interested buyers among nearly 8,000 attendees. The 357 exhibitors represented a broad spectrum of independent producers and sales agents, showcasing features ranging from micro-budget thrillers to studio epics that are all in various stages of production. Premiering films offered a who’s who of star talent, such as Jessica Chastain, James Franco, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, Judi Dench and Jesse Eisenberg. These high-profile movies include Harry and the Butler (starring Michael Caine and Samuel L. Jackson), Very Good Girls (starring Dakota Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen, Demi Moore and Richard Dreyfuss) and Survivor (starring Milla Jovavich, Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan).
