Recently J.L. Fisher held an industry mixer and BBQ at its company headquarters in Burbank, Calif. The free-admission event was also sponsored by the Society of Camera Operators (SOC), International Cinematographers Guild (ICG) and American Society of Cinematographers (ASC).
J.L. Fisher President Jimmy Fisher gave guided tours of the facility, and attendees were treated to superb BBQ (that included delicious fish cakes and rib-eye steaks) and two seminars in the sound boom room. Members of the SOC Local 600 and Local 80 held the “Moving Camera Operation” seminar. Moderated by David Mahlmann, SOC, the session focused on the working relationship between the cinematographer, camera operator, 1st AC, key grip and dolly grip when using dollies and jib arms. The “Dialogue with ASC Cinematographers” seminar was moderated by George Spiro Dibie, ASC and a panel of 10 ASC cinematographers. They gave their insights into the current role of DPs in the industry and discussed everything from the film-versus-digital debate to educated camera choices. The event also offered equipment and technology demonstrations by leading manufacturers, suppliers and support services, including Sony, 3alityTechnica, Tiffen and Panavision.
