Cinematographer Shane Hurlbut, ASC, recently announced the move of his company Hurlbut Visuals to a new warehouse/office space on La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles, Calif. To celebrate the event, the DP held an open house at the new facility, inviting cinematographers, assistant cameramen, his Elite Team and a host of other entertainment industry professionals who share an interest in DSLR photography.
Hurlbut Visuals was created two years ago by Hurlbut and his wife Lydia to educate and inspire industry professionals on DSLR photography "one filmmaker at a time." "After purchasing 17 cameras for Act of Valor, [Cameraman] Mike Svitak and I were looking at each other and saying maybe we should start a little rental house," says Hurlbut. "Two years later, we're in a 3,000-foot space starting a production arm. It's been an exciting time."
Hurlbut Visuals is made up of three arms to Create, Educate and Innovate. "It's a collaboration of a team, because it's not just one person on a movie, commercial or short,"says Lydia Hurlbut. "It's giving people opportunities that they would not normally have." Shane Hurlbut adds, "It's all about inspiring [others]. We can really show people what we're doing by bringing them to our space." The DP also notes that the innovative side of Hurlbut Visuals is getting ready to introduce a new exciting advancement: "Stay tuned, we're about ready to rock the DSLR world."
