Camera Operator of the Year Winners

The Society of Camera Operators (SOC)  recently announced the winners of the Camera Operator of the Year Awards in film and television at its 2014 Annual Lifetime Achievement Awards. Peter Taylor (Gravity) Wins Camera Operator of the Year for Feature Film and Don Devine (Mad Men) Wins Camera Operator of the Year for Television. (Both pictured above)

Motion Picture Sound Editors Presents 2014 Golden Reel Awards

The Motion Picture Sound Editors recently presented the 61st MPSE Golden Reel Awards at a black-tie ceremony held at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. Golden Reel Awards recognizing outstanding achievement in sound editing were presented in categories encompassing feature films, long-form and short-form television, animation, documentaries and other media. Gravity and Captain Phillips took home top awards in the feature film categories. Star Wars creator George Lucas presented the annual MPSE Career Achievement Award to Randy Thom, Director of Sound Design at Skywalker Sound.

Gravity Earns Top Honor for Cinematography

The 28th Annual American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Awards for Outstanding Achievement was recently held at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland. Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, ASC, AMC; Jeremy Benning, CSC; Jonathan Freeman, ASC and Blake McClure earned top honors in the four competitive categories.  Lubezki won the ASC Award in the feature film competition for Gravity. Benning won the TV movie/miniseries award for Killing Lincoln. Freeman took home top honors in the one-hour episodic television category for "Game of Thrones," and McClure was the recipient of the half-hour episodic series award for "Drunk History.The ASC Award for best feature was presented by Caleb Deschanel, ASC. Lubezki has won the organization’s top prize twice for The Tree of Life (2012) and Children of Men (2007), and was also nominated for Sleepy Hollow (2000).

That's a Wrap for Sundance 2014

This year was Sundance’s 30th anniversary, and Festival Executive Director Keri Putnam made sure we all knew that “the mission hasn’t changed” even though we’ve seen significant transformations and a remarkable evolution over the years. Sundance Institute now boasts 18 labs throughout the year and includes documentary, music, theater and new media arts throughout the more traditional narrative aspects of the 10 days in Park City, Utah.

Sundance Institute this evening announced the Jury, Audience and other special awards of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival at the feature film Awards Ceremony, hosted by Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally, in Park City, Utah. Video of the ceremony in its entirety is available at www.sundance.org/live.
