Gearing Up for NAB 2014

VasVegasSMThe National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2014 show will take in Las Vegas, NV from April 5-10th. This is the world’s largest electronic media show highlighting the latest in innovation in filmed entertainment, development, management and delivery.  This year there are more than 200 companies exhibiting for the first time on the showroom floor, which expands 850,000+ square feet. This is the mammoth of electronic shows and gives industry professionals a look into the future of this ever-changing industry and helps them to embrace the new exciting future of content creation.

George Lucas to Present MPSE Career Achievement Award to Randy Thom

LucasThe Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) recently announced that George Lucas will serve as presenter of its 2014 MPSE Career Achievement Award honoring Randy Thom, Director of Sound Design at Skywalker Sound. The presentation will occur at the 61ST MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony held on February 16, 2014, at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites, Los Angeles, CA.

John Wells to be Honored by American Society of Cinematographers

John-Wells SMAward-winning writer-director-producer John Wells will receive the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) 2014 Board of Governors Award. Wells will be honored during the 28th Annual ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards gala here on February 1 at the Hollywood & Highland Ray Dolby Ballroom.

Sundance and Canon Help Indies Thrive

Canon C500Out of 118 feature films being screened at this year’s 30th anniversary festival in Park City, 19 percent were shot on Canon cameras. That’s second only to ARRI cameras (mostly the Alexa) that take up 27 percent of the annual indie barometer’s slate.
